3 designs and decision making matrix(PT 1)

Before we started on the building, we decided to brainstorm a few ideas with one idea, 7 having a second version. This helped us to learn the strengths and weaknesses to each design type.

Design one a simple quadrangular through warren bridge, strong but heavy and reliant on the strength of its joints
Design 2 a simple Howe bridge, not as strong and still too heavy
Design 3 an adaptation to a Howe design, relatively light but not strong enough
Design 4 a quadrangular warren bridge with all the supports being below the deck, strong but not light
Design 5 a quadrangular warren bridge with all the supports being above the deck, strong but not light enough, similar to Design 4
A simplified Howe bridge, light but not strong enough
An adaptation to Design 6, not as strong as a Howe or Warren design but much lighter, however this was a little too tall

A further adaptation to Design 7 with the vertical supports collapsing into a single pyramid structure.

Our decision matrices and more bridge designs:
We used West point Bridge Builder 2014 Software to generate different bridges and test them.
